When I was younger, I believed that I did not need a passport to go to Puerto Rico. I was old enough to not be on some terrorist watch list and I did not have much money. The thought of having to fly to a foreign country and then waiting for several hours in a crowded terminal to get to your flight is not appealing to me. I was excited to spend my summer vacation traveling to my favorite island and to take along my passport, but did I really need one?
I did not think about it until I was already planning my trip and had all my documents ready. Then I remembered that I do not always have ready cash or airline tickets to spare. So I went online and started to do some research on whether or not you actually need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico.
First of all, there are many reasons why you would want to take a trip to Puerto Rico. The first one is to experience what a beautiful place this truly is. Many people have told me that they actually thought that they were in the Amazon rainforest when they were traveling, even if it was only for a week-long vacation. It is definitely an experience that you will never forget, and it is one of the main reasons why I want to be a traveler. That being said, do I need a passport for my vacation in Puerto Rico?
The truth is, you probably do not. The reason why you may want to consider a travel security pass is if you are going to be flying over American soil. Although there is no requirement for American citizens to get a travel security pass, it is certainly advisable for anyone travelling outside of the 50 United States. Keep in mind that you are going to have to present valid documentation proving that you are a citizen of the United States before you can get your passport extended or replaced.
As for the rest of us out here in the good old world, do we need a passport to go to Puerto Rico? Well, actually, there are two answers to that question. If you plan on visiting the island, which I highly recommend, you are going to need some sort of identification such as a driver’s license or an individual identification card. You will also need a passport-sized photo.
This is important because Puerto Rico has a rather unique postal system. All of their stamps must be returned in the same envelope, printed with the Puerto Rican flag. Therefore, the first thing that you should do is obtain your passport in advance and bring it with you when you leave. There are many different types of passports available for purchase online and in many touristy destinations throughout the world. Make sure that you do a little research and see which ones are the most popular, and which ones are the best for your purpose. Do not buy a passport that is too complicated for your travel plans.
Okay, now that you have your passport, what other documents do I need to travel to Puerto Rico? Again, there are many options. One of the most popular reasons that people travel to the island is to visit the many cultural and historical sites that it has to offer. You can go to the Mayan ruins, which are located along the Mexico border. You can also go to the Caribbean coast and enjoy the beaches and beautiful scenery.
So, whether you want to travel for a vacation or to just visit, Puerto Rico is a very desirable destination. Just be sure that you do some research before you leave. There are many things to see and to experience when traveling abroad. With a little preparation, you can be well on your way to having a great trip!
